Peter Edelman, law professor at Georgetown University Law Center, was an aide to Senator Robert F. Kennedy from 1965 until the senator's death, served as Assistant Secretary for Planning and Evaluation in the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services until his resignation in 1996, protesting the signing of the federal welfare reform bill, and is a respected author and speaker on issues of social policy.

Peter has shared his memories of RFK's 1968 visit to eastern Kentucky with John Malpede over the past few years, and is a member of the RFKinEKY Advisory Board.

Peter will begin the RFK in EKY September activity schedule with a talk at the University of Kentucky' Student Center on September 8, addressing the intent of the original "war on poverty, " RFK's ideas for a second generation of poverty legislation, and the changes national social policy has undergone over the past three decades.

Peter will speak again on September 9, at Alice Lloyd College, at the end of the first day of the RFK in EKY performance.
